Frequently Asked Questions

At this time, HDC is not accepting direct applications for housing. Our properties are either fully occupied or managed through third-party application processes, including the Housing Authority of Bergen County (HABC). We encourage interested residents to check back periodically for updates or reach out to HABC for current availability and eligibility requirements.

HDC provides affordable housing for:

  • Low-income seniors

  • Veterans

  • Individuals with disabilities or special needs

  • Low-income and Working families

Each property may have specific income limits, age restrictions, or eligibility criteria based on funding sources such as HUD or Low-Income Housing Tax Credits. Eligibility is determined during the application and screening process.

HDC properties are made possible through a combination of funding sources, including:

  • HUD Multi-Family programs

  • Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC)

  • Community Development Block Grants (CDBG)

  • HOME Investment Partnerships

  • Municipal support and land donations

  • The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs
  • The New Jersey Housing Mortgage Finance Agency

This layered financing approach allows HDC to keep housing affordable and sustainable for the long term.

We regularly collaborate with local governments, nonprofits, and financial institutions to bring affordable housing to communities throughout Bergen County. To start a conversation about partnership or development opportunities, please contact our team directly.
